Located on Avenida da República, this project involves the renovation, extension, and alteration of an existing residential building in the historic center of Olhão. The proposal maintains the building’s original footprint and overall volumetry while reorganizing its interior layout to improve functionality, comfort, and contemporary living standards.
The intervention includes the addition of a third floor and the reconfiguration of internal spaces to create a more efficient and flexible dwelling, with improved natural light, ventilation, and spatial continuity. The façade will be carefully redesigned, removing non-original elements and restoring a more coherent architectural language, aligned with the traditional character of the surrounding urban fabric.
Special attention is given to the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, with the introduction of terraces and an accessible roof area (açoteia), enhancing views and outdoor living opportunities. The project also preserves and reinterprets traditional materials and construction techniques, ensuring the building remains integrated within the architectural identity of Olhão while adapting it for modern use.
