THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

If you look, what do you see? Inspired by the homonymous work written by Lewis Carroll, Through The Looking Glass is a functional piece that tries to challenge the individual to face himself, rethink himself and others through a reflection. Just as in the book, an idealistic vision takes shape, where reality is opened up and constructed by new ideas, concepts and visions as the analysis develops. The brass handle cuts into the wooden frame, inviting it to be pulled open to reveal a human-sized jewelry box: a place for precious objects that represent inner thoughts, dreams and secrets. Here they sit peacefully on brass hooks, waiting for a decision to be brought to light and worn with pride. In contrast, the back of the mirror hides an imperfect object. It is nothing more than a wooden board that would be considered firewood due to its imperfections. These so-called imperfections are purposefully evident due to the epoxy filling, reminding us that the flaws we are made of are also part of our beauty. Look in the mirror and think again: can you get rid of prejudices, fears and shame and change your reality?

Materials: Kambala Wood, Brass, Mirror, Epoxy.
