Casa Chã is a partial demolition, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and alteration project of an existing building complex located in Vale de Gralhas, Faro, set within a rural context and strongly connected to the surrounding natural landscape. The intervention aims to recover a building in an advanced state of decay, preserving its original footprint and identity while adapting it to contemporary living standards.
The project proposes the reconstruction of the building within its existing boundaries, without a significant increase in volume, integrating the former annex into the main residential structure. The spatial layout defines a single-storey family home with a clear separation between social and private areas, prioritising spatial fluidity and a strong relationship with the exterior.
The proposal also includes the reinterpretation of the façades and the improvement of comfort conditions, namely through enhanced natural lighting and cross ventilation, as well as the introduction of new openings that improve the building’s architectural expression.
The outdoor spaces are requalified to enhance the existing topography, creating leisure areas, landscaped gardens, a swimming pool, and an accessible rooftop terrace, strengthening the connection between architecture and landscape.
