Casa dos Gelados

Casa dos Gelados is a renovation, extension, interior design and furniture design project of a 1920s building located in the historic centre of Olhão, Portugal. Set within the Urban Rehabilitation Area, the intervention sought to restore the building’s identity by reintroducing the characteristic rhythms, materials and architectural language of the city’s cubist heritage, while adapting it to contemporary living.
The project transforms the property into a three-storey single-family house, combining functional spaces such as a rare private garage with open, light-filled living areas, a central patio, and a rooftop terrace with views over the Ria Formosa. Emphasis was placed on natural light, ventilation and the use of local materials, creating a balance between tradition and modernity, and giving new life to a building deeply rooted in Olhão’s architectural character.
