The Tipsy Fig is a local accommodation project with presence in several regions of the country, always aiming to integrate and adapt to the architectural identity and cultural traditions of each place. Olhão was selected as one of the investment locations due to its strong cultural and architectural heritage, making it a natural fit for the concept of the project.
The intervention focuses on the rehabilitation and expansion of a traditional urban building, originally composed of two registered floors with a later addition. The project seeks to legalize and reorganize the existing structure, including the consolidation of a third level, while improving spatial quality, functionality, and comfort.
A key principle of the intervention is the respect for the existing architectural language of Olhão, characterized by its cubist composition, rhythm of solids and voids, and traditional materials. The proposal includes the removal of dissonant elements added over time, the restoration of façade coherence, and the reintroduction of lime plaster, natural stone details, and timber-framed openings.
Internally, the building is reconfigured to improve natural light, ventilation, and circulation, creating more balanced and livable spaces across all floors. The upper levels are reorganized to accommodate improved living areas, while the rooftop and technical areas are redesigned as functional and accessible spaces, enhancing usability without compromising the overall volumetric harmony.
