The Marmalade House is located in the picturesque fishing village of Olhão, on the oldest street of Barreta—the town’s oldest neighborhood—just 100 meters from the waterfront.
The house is approximately 150–200 years old and is built with stone and lime, featuring vaulted brick ceilings. The main goal of the renovation was to preserve as much of the original structure as possible while ensuring modern comfort.
During the renovation process, historic stone and brick details were uncovered, and the decision was made to leave them exposed. All materials used are local and traditional, with the walls restored using only lime. The traditional stone and bricks were treated with natural materials that protect them without compromising their breathability.
All traditional architectural elements were respected, including the typical “açoteia” (rooftop terrace). The house was designed as a holiday rental for couples, with a romantic atmosphere created through the use of French furniture and soft color tones.
